Summer Fun

A friend of mine let me organize her child's playroom in the basement. I love doing stuff like this! Through cleaning blogs, books, and first hand experience, I have learned the best way to clean/organize is to tackle one thing at a time. It can be very daunting otherwise. First, I picked out any trash or items that did not belong in the playroom. Second, I did a quick scan of all the toys and started making piles for toys in common. You should always make a random pile for stuff you have no clue where to put. If you have to spend more then 5 seconds contemplating its purpose or where it goes, stick it in the random pile. Once everything has been placed in the proper piles, the random pile of stuff makes more sense and if it does not... recycle, donate or trash it! Finally, I made a special home for all the different piles in bins or little storage containers. I feel like an unorganized space for kids is overwhelming and does not create an environment for their imagination to come out. I need to remember that when I am tired and Rio just created utter chaos in his playroom :)

Listening to a little music impromptu at the Zoo.

 My two sweet boys.

Rio likes to wrestle Parker whenever they get together... it is super funny to watch. He will grunt at Parker and then lunge toward him and give him a bear hug (or try to swat his face).

Washington Pics l

Washington here we come!
Rio and Miss Sunny
Our sweet boy Sandy. Every time we come, Sandy still follows us around everywhere. He is the best boy and takes care of the farm since Ally passed away.
A new addition to the farm.

Rio with his adorable cousins Macy and Dallin. They were so cute with Rio. We love you Dallin and Macy!
Rio was mesmerized by the goats. He would not take his eyes off of them while Auntie Bre fed them.

This was at a gas station... a first for me.

Silly Boy
Smart... Rio Smart

Soccer legs

Our trip to Washington went by way too fast. We got tenants for our Traverse house right before we planned on leaving for Washington. We had two days to move all our stuff out and into the Millcreek garage (house was still being remodeled) before heading out. We needed to get to WA for Adria's heart surgery in three days (two days to move, one day to drive!). It was a bit stressful to say the least! Thankfully, Ashton and Todd were able to help get some of our stuff out after we left. Ashton has the best story about getting Buster from the backyard :)
It was so nice having everyone meet Rio for the first time. I was so out of it from the move and drive that I did not get a lot of pictures. Gabe has some on her computer that I will post next.

Chicago

We headed out to Chicago in June for a soccer tournament with Gabe's 98 and 96 teams. It was nice to be able to all go together. Rio did great on the plane. It was extremely hot but it felt good to be in the humidity again.

Rio is great at our soccer games. He entertains himself the entire time.

 Gabe's 98s.

We found a beach access point to Lake Michigan. It was absolutely beautiful. Rio was not too thrilled putting his feet in the cold water.
We took a walk along a trail right next to a golf course everyday as family, always enjoying and admiring the scenery. I really miss the trees back east. I hope one day we can get some acres in the mountains and have our own little Smart family compound. I will become a radical homemaker- tend to the garden, make bread, rescue some animals in need, and maybe canning for the winter. Gabe's Mom is first class at this type of stuff and I know I can learn a lot from her once this dream comes true.
Can you find the squirrel in this picture?
Can you find the raccoon in this picture?
Dena Floyd!! I saw Dena at the ECNL soccer event in Chicago. Dena and I grew up together in VA. I consider her a dear friend and it was nice catching up. She is coaching the women's soccer program at NC State. Very proud of her.
Barnes and Noble trip. Gabe would watch Rio while I got my B&N fix everyday.
Always smiling.
The creek we would cross everyday on our family walk.

Summer Lovin ll

Bella's favorite spot in the house.
 Go Utes!
Running errands use to be such a bore.. but now I have a little mini me to hang with.
Rio is so tough. Bella got excited and pawed his face.. he did not even cry.
 First popsicle taste.

This is one of my favorite Rio expressions. He looks like a miniature man.

 Started climbing stairs today.. yippee...
This is a face of a brave boy. Now that he thinks he is a little sherpa, he tries climbing on everything.. and usually succeeds.
